Sounion- Temple of Poseidon

Last week we took a trip to Sounion and watched the sunset over the temple of Poseidon. We packed sack lunches and ate outside the park then took pictures as the sun set in the sky.

Athens

To start off the day (at 8am) we took the bus into Athens and spent the day seeing the sights. First we saw an Olympic Theater that was build over 100 years ago for the 1896 Olympic games that were held in Greece.

We then headed to the Parthenon and spent some of our time walking around around the border taking pictures and visiting other historic surrounding buildings. The original statues and other ancient art atop the Parthenon are stored in the Athens Museum to preserve them from further weather damage. We visited the museum later on in the day.

After visiting the Parthenon we headed over to Mars Hill for a quick lesson on Paul and some singing. The hill had graffiti and cigarette buds, but on the way up the stairs there is a plaque with a passage from Acts 17 inscribed in Greek. After spending time on Mars Hill (and almost getting rained on) we traveled into the city and had a lunch of salad, cheese pie, chicken and rice, followed by ice cream. We then headed to the museum for a 2 hour tour. The time spent in the museum combined with the jet lag, we were all ready to get on the bus back to Porto Rafti!

Porto Rafti

View of Porto Rafti from HUG Mountain

So I am in Greece for the summer. .
I was told to start a blog by RC Tucker and on my way down the hug mountain this afternoon, I decided that was a good idea. I do not consider myself a blogger, nor do I want to become an avid blogger. This is the simplest way to share pictures and report on recent adventures.

Today we climbed the HUG Mountain for the first time. The view kept getting better the higher up we went. The climb down was harder because rocks kept sliding out from underneath our feet. Eric Suddeath took a nasty slide midway down and has some bruises and cuts to prove it. After a dinner of Gyros from a local place we purchased some cheap notebooks, went to yet another meeting then got ice cream! Tomorrow we head to Athens!
